Welcome to The Marketer’s Apprentice archives. We have so much training here that we figured you’d appreciate some extra organizing.  To make your browing easier, we’ve categorized things into neat little “areas” you can visit and find exactly what you’re looking for.

As an example, we’ve created a series of “How-To” Internet Marketing Training videos you’ll LOVE if you find yourself pulling your hair out, trying to figure out how to do things like:

  • How to do Keyword Research
  • How to set up a wordpress blog in 3 easy steps
  • How to use social media (the smart way) to connect with your customers
  • etc
If you still can’t find what you’re looking for, try the SEARCH function (pending….) over (location….)

But what if you still can’t find what you’re looking for?

Assuming that training piece isn’t playing virtual hide-and-seek…there’s a good chance we still need to create training on your special topic.  Just give us a shout and let us know what you’re looking for.  You can leave a comment below, or bop on over to our Contact page.  Heck, you can send us a tweet.  A Facebook message.  An email.  There’s even a mailing address!

Thanks for the generosity of putting this site and all its great content together! If you’re STILL feeling generous please answer this (hopefully) quick question: why do you prefer AWeber (and other tools together) over the integrated Office Autopilot? I’m doing tech evaluations right now and it SEEMS like AutoPilot can save on some integration headaches (time, money, frustration) . Can’t find much on the web except short quips by people who love it or don’t. It seem like you’ve really got your act together and I’d love your perspective. Thanks in advance!

Hey Guy,

I have a lot of experience with Office Autopilot, and unfortunately, it was not a good experience. Their system offers a lot in terms of tagging + segmenting follow-up sequences, which is really nice if you’re trying to do something like the following: Customer A purchases Product A. The purchase of Product A tags them with a particular tag, which then triggers a follow-up sequence that begins selling them on Product B and so on.

Here’s the reality I experienced (and note, I was working on an account that had purchased their high end package, complete with dedicated server—large account). The emails did not get sent when they were supposed to. Deliverability was very poor. Customer service was not as helpful as they should have been, and on an on.

It was a VERY frustrating + time consuming experience to say the least, cost the company tens of thousands of dollars.

Aweber is an industry standard. Not a huge amount of bells and whistles, but dependable and inexpensive. I think the biggest question I have for you is: what are you planning to use your auto-responder for?

Thanks for the quick replay, that’s really awesome!

I’m still working out the business plan, so far the idea is to have two or more basic “brands”, each of which will have a blog (for SEO) and one or more paid products (membership site, coaching, etc.). Each product launch would have a campaign of 4-7 emails, each with a link to a page that contains a video, a bit of text and (possibly) a blog/feedback area. I’d like to be able to “smart group” prospects based upon any combination of which brands and/or products they’ve shown interest in and/or purchased, so that (for example) I not just cross or up-sell within a brand but also gently nudge them across brands as appropriate.

While I have deep tech knowledge it isn’t really in the Web arena, and configuring stuff and duck-taping drives me up a wall (which is why the *promise* of AutoPilot is so appealing). Your experience is interesting as there have been lots of postings online about the positive comparable quality of AutoPilot’s deliverability. When did you use it? I wonder if it’s gotten much better in the past year or so…

Anyway, any quick advice you’d like to throw my way would be appreciated.

I also forgot to mention that AutoPilot seemed cool because it also *seems* to have built-in support for campaigns AND squeeze pages (so maybe I wouldn’t need something like OptimizePress and AWeber) AND it *seems* to have well-integrated shopping cart.

Hey Guy,

I used OA a couple years ago. Deliverability, as mentioned was dreadful. They did not have the squeeze pages at the time + the co. I was working with had their own shopping cart, so I’m not sure if OA had one at the time either.

Maybe they’ve improved? If you do go that route, expect a steep learning curve and I recommend you keep an escape route in mind.

Good point. They’re offering a free trial so I figure I’ll give it a shot and see how it goes. Their API allows contacts to get exported if I want to migrate to another service (like AWeber). I’ll let you know my personal experience!
